The End of Money and the Future of Civilization

The End of Money and the Future of Civilization considers the money problem within the broad historical and political context that has made the control of money and banking the primary mechanism for concentrating power and wealth and the nullification of democratic governance.

It provides the necessary understanding for entrepreneurs, activists, and civic leaders to implement approaches toward monetary liberation, approaches that empower communities to restore their environments and democratic institutions, and begin to build economies that are sustainable, equitable, and insulated from the financial crises that plague the dominant systems of money, banking and finance.

Dear campaigner

Our parent business, The Co-operative, supports a number of campaigns in addition to our current fight against Toxic Fuels. Here are a couple we think you might like to get involved with:

Join The Wave: London, Saturday 5 December

Between 2006 and 2008, you helped us campaign for a strong Climate Change Bill, as part of Friends of the Earth’s ‘The Big Ask’, which resulted in the Climate Change Act 2008. This December, we need you to help us put the heat on the world’s leaders.

On Saturday 5 December, ahead of the crucial UN climate change talks in Copenhagen, thousands of people will be joining The Wave, a family friendly climate change march in central London, organised by the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition.

The Co-operative is supporting The Wave to call for an ambitious global climate change deal that is safe and fair.

Join us. You can
book subsidised transport to London using campaign code CWC1_THEWAVE. Or, if you make your own way there, find out how to
march with us on the day. Find out
more about The Wave.

For those living in Scotland, The Wave is also taking place in Glasgow.

Who says there’s no Plan Bee?

Bees pollinate a third of the food we eat, and this contributes £200 million a year to the UK economy. However, bee populations across the globe are severely declining. In the UK, a fifth of bees were lost in the winter of 2008/09.

Earlier this year The Co-operative launched Plan Bee, a 10-point plan including action on pesticides, research funding and empowering people to take action in their own gardens.

The Co-operative is petitioning the UK Government for research into the impact of pesticides on bees.

To date, £10 million has been set aside to fund research into the causes of the declining bee population in the UK. As yet, no commitment has been made to fund research into the potential effects of pesticides, despite growing anecdotal evidence that this may be a factor.

Please help us -
sign the petition. Find out
what else The Co-operative is doing for bees and
how to get involved.

We’ll be in touch soon with more campaigns news.

Thank you

BBC to screen programme on The Co-operative’s ethical campaigning

Co-op campaigns against Toxic Fuels and for the Beaver Lake Cree

Co-op campaigns against Toxic Fuels and for the Beaver Lake Cree

Monday 26 October, BBC One is screening a half hour programme on The Co-operative’s ethical campaigning, with a focus on their most recent fight against Toxic Fuels and our support for the Beaver Lake Cree’s legal challenge.

The Beaver Lake Cree live in Alberta, Canada, and have seen their traditional lands degraded by large scale deforestation and pollution arising from tar developments. They have launched a legal case, taking on the Canadian and Albertan Governments, as well as every oil giant currently operating in the tar sands.

This fight is a true David versus Goliath battle, with the lawsuit potentially the only thing between us and runaway climate change.

Watch the programme: Monday 26 October, 7.30pm:

* BBC One North West
* Sky channel 978
* Freesat channel 955
* Watch it on iPlayer from Tuesday 27 October.

Donate to the Beaver Lake Cree – support their battle against further tar sands developments. Donate here.

Spread the word – tell your friends, family and colleagues about this issue and help them join our fight via our pages on Twitter and Facebook, as well as our campaign site

Business Failures Anonymous

Join BFA

In the current economic climate where we are facing great challenges in business operations, all the hard-nosed facts, projections, statistics, Dow Jones/FTSE ups and downs sometimes hide the fact that there are real people behind it all. And some of them are facing life-changing (and potentially life-ending) circumstances. For small businesses, this can mean one person facing these circumstances alone – Business Failures Anonymous is a support network for entrepreneurs/owners of failed businesses who need a support/buddy network in the real world.

Business Failures Anonymous‘ mission is to revitalise real world contact for people who may be struggling to come to terms with their situation and who seek support from people in similar situations. Business Failures Anonymous recognises that there is a wealth of professional business advice readily available but also believes that there is a lack of emotional support for people facing potentially serious consequences of a failed business.

Taking its model from groups such as Alcoholics/Gamblers Anonymous, it picks up where “a professed ‘failure’” left it some time ago. BFA’s main aim is to make it easy for anyone facing the stress and pressures of a failed business to find a “buddy” and/or organise a local group or join an existing support group.

If you feel that you would benefit from or could offer support to Business Failures Anonymous, please visit the main site and the blog to see if there is something for you.
